Yaroslav is 15 years old and dreams of becoming a game developer. To achieve this goal, he is actively learning English, as proficiency in the language is crucial for success in programming and the tech world.
Yaroslav’s journey has been filled with incredible challenges. Until 2014, he lived in Luhansk. After the conflict began, his family relocated to Bucha, Kyiv region. In February 2022, they had to leave their home once again due to the city’s occupation. Tragically, during this period, Yaroslav lost his stepfather.
For two weeks, Yaroslav, his mother, and younger sister took shelter in a basement as rockets hit neighboring buildings, destroying their apartment’s balcony and windows. Despite being in the apartment, they were fortunate to remain unharmed. They endured power, gas, water, and internet outages. At that time, they were unable to contact their stepfather to let him know they were safe.
In March, while waiting for evacuation buses that never arrived, Yaroslav and his family ventured out into the city for the first time. They witnessed destruction—collapsed buildings, wrecked cars, and lifeless bodies. Despite these horrific circumstances, Yaroslav continued learning programming on an old phone, which helped distract him from the turmoil.
Eventually, they managed to evacuate and find temporary refuge near Kyiv. Yaroslav continued his programming studies despite the difficult circumstances and found support in his English studies.
Now, back in Bucha, Yaroslav is even more dedicated to his education. Learning English is a key part of his plans for a career in game development. With the support of tutors, he feels more confident and motivated. Yaroslav inspires with his resilience and ambition, and with your help, he can continue to overcome obstacles and move closer to his dreams.
