Herman is 14 years old and lives in Irpin with his grandmother, who wholeheartedly cares about his future. Their story is one of resilience, love, and hope for a better tomorrow
Before the war, Herman and his grandmother lived in Kramatorsk. In March 2022, frightened by the events unfolding in Mariupol and the Kharkiv region, they were forced to leave their home. Initially settling in Dnipro, they eventually moved to Irpin, where Herman began building a new life—making friends and joining a sports school. However, he still struggled with confidence and emotional balance.
His grandmother noticed the toll that displacement and loss had taken on him. Searching for ways to help, she discovered Hope – Children of Ukraine, which offered psychological support.
“Herman enjoyed talking to the psychologist and opening up about his teenage struggles,” his grandmother shared. “After these sessions, I saw a change in his relationships with peers—he became more open, balanced, and self-assured.”
The psychologist helped Herman face his fears, understand his emotions, and build stronger social connections. This marked the beginning of new opportunities for a boy who had endured so much.
Today, Herman smiles, attends training sessions, and finds joy in the simple things—just as every teenager should.
Thanks to your support, we have been able to provide psychological assistance to Herman and other children who need it most during these challenging times.
