Meet Anna. She is 14 years old, from Kharkiv and she is the voice of a new generation of Ukrainian authors. While the war was changing her life from 4th to 8th grade, Anna turned her pain into poetry and prose.
Today, Anna studies at our foundation so her voice can be heard far beyond Ukraine.
Why is Annaβs story a manifesto of strength?
π Creativity as a weapon: Anna writes books. Her poetry has already been published in the anthology βMetal and Metaphorβ and now she is working on publishing her own book about a girl and war.
π£οΈ Lessons with a native speaker: Her biggest challenge was listening comprehension. Now Anna studies with a native English speaker and feels how English is becoming a tool for her bigger dream.
π± A ginger source of comfort: Her loyal friend is a cat rescued directly from a combat zone. During evacuation to the Zhytomyr region, they became a comfort and support for each other.
Her main goal: to publish her book in English. Anna wants the world to learn the story of her hometown, Kharkiv and understand what a child feels when someone tries to take away her home.
βYour support helps us continue moving toward our dreams even in times like these,β says Anna.
We believe that one day Annaβs book will appear on the shelves of bookstores around the world. And we are simply helping her gain the knowledge she needs to make it happen.
